Basically, Poker is a game of betting and wagering in which each player places an ante into the pot. The aim of the game is to make the best possible hand with a series of five cards. If a player makes the winning hand, he or she takes the pot. In some games, the pot is divided equally amongst players.
A poker hand is a collection of five cards and may be a single straight, two pairs or three of a kind. The highest card in the hand determines the winner. If two or more players tie for the top card, a high card is used to break the tie.
There are many variations of the game. Some include a wild card, which can substitute for any other card. Other games require specific cards or jokers. The most common type of game is Texas Hold’em.
The game is played by 5-7 players. Each player is dealt a set of cards from the dealer. The player to the left of the dealer is the “first to act” or button. He or she posts a small blind and a big blind. The dealer deals the cards from left to right.
The best possible hand is a trip sevens. In Texas Hold’em, the best possible hand is two distinct pairs of cards plus a fifth card. If there is no pair, the best hand is a strait flush.
The showdown is when all the cards are revealed. The best hand is the one that wins the pot.
