The highest hand in a poker game is known as a high hand. The lowest hand is called a low hand. High hands are two pairs of cards plus a fifth card. When two players have the same hand, the high card wins. A tie occurs when no two players have a pair. In this case, the high card is used to break the tie.
During a poker game, players can check the pot, raise, or fold. They do this by placing chips in the pot. These chips come in red, white, black, blue, and green colors. Before the game begins, a dealer assigns values to the chips. Each player must place a specific number of chips into the pot equal to the previous player’s contribution. This player is known as an active player.
A game of poker may have as few as two players or as many as hundreds. The ideal number of players is six to eight. The pot is the total sum of all bets made by all players in a particular deal. A player wins the pot when he/she has the best five-card combination, known as a poker hand.
Assume that you have a pair of kings. This hand is not bad. You can raise if you have three of a kind, or a flush. You can bet against the dealer if your hand is lower than the dealer’s.
