McDonald Fellowships in Europe 2021/2022

McDonald Fellowships are fully funded scholarships for foreign students who want to embark on postgraduate studies in any country they desire. These scholarships are available for masters and PhD. The fellowship entails of a 2-year funding, about £30,000 GBP per annum, to fund travel and living expenses, and an added contribution of £2,000 GBP per annum to the host institution.

The McDonald Fellowship program empowers budding multiple sclerosis researchers from low and middle-income nations to work in a research institution outside of their own nation. After receiving the award, we expect candidates will be able to use the afresh developed expertise and networks, continuing to embark on MS research and/or patient care in low and middle-income nations.

McDonald Fellowship – About

The program comprises of a 2-year grant, about £30,000 GBP per annum, to fund travel and living expenses, and an added contribution of £2,000 GBP per annum to the host institution. For 2021 phase, the program is more flexible on the use of funds if virtual projects are proposed.

On condition that it is secure to travel during the pandemic, we anticipate that part of the second-year grant to the host institution will be utilized to cover the applicant’s costs to attend the yearly congress of ECTRIMS.

Eligibility for McDonald Fellowships

To be eligible for McDonald Fellowships, applicant must satisfy all the prerequisites below:

  • Required Language(s): English
  • Eligible Countries: Foreign students from low or middle income countries
  • An applicant has to be either a Master’s, PhD. or MD holder.
  • An applicant is also qualified if he or she is working on multiple sclerosis in another nation that is a low or middle-income nation.
  • Since the application will be joint by the candidate and host institute, an applicant has to choose before applying his or her host institute either in their home country or neighboring country if traveling is allowed.
  • Working or studying in a low or middle-income nation (all nations with a low, lower middle or upper middle income as defined by the World Bank) at the time of nomination
  • Working or studying in another nation on a project which began in the six months before to nomination
  • Studying in another nation on a project supported by an MS International Federation grant
